To accomplish our vision, Friends of Cancer Patients and it dedicated board members, staff and volunteers carry out a broad spectrum of activities for the UAE community.
- Providing Information
As one of the leading cancer organisations in the UAE, Friends of Cancer Patients provide evidence-based and current information that provides our community with a sound understanding on all available information relating to cancer. We work closely with all the UAE health authorities, cancer treating hospitals, doctors and specialised health professionals in order to make a difference in improving prevention, protection and the treatment of cancer patients undergo in the UAE. As a support centre our most frequent request is for information on the different cancers and advice on how patients and their families should proceed with treatment options or how to be linked with appropriate medical professionals and or support networks in the UAE.
- Prevention
FOCP is adamant about providing dedicated and specific prevention and early detection programs to residents that reside in the UAE. This includes but is not limited to the metropolitan cities and encompassing the wider community who live smaller townships. As the UAE has a population that is made up of a large percentage of expatriates of various nationalities and cultural backgrounds, it has been the charities understanding that the prevention campaigns need to be specifically designed to encompass and meet the needs of each population segment. Our programs are not only focused on educating about the types of cancers and treatments, it is about engaging and assisting people to adopt healthy eating and living habits, stop smoking, being careful when it comes to UV exposure from the sun, exposure to dangerous chemicals for people in the industrial and agricultural industries, physical activity and regular health screening and tests to reduce the risk of cancer. FOCP also offers a wide variety of services, programs, workshops and free screening opportunities that are available to the UAE residents, to help improve the quality of life of our patients and families that are living with cancer.
- Treatment
The UAE has different health authorities Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority and the Ministry of Health MOH that covers Dubai and the Northern Emirates. As each authority has its own set of guidelines it is advised that an individual seeks the correct advice when adopting or choosing your cancer treatment. FOCP has long standing relationship over the past decade with Tawam hospital in affiliation with John Hopkins, as a large percentage of our patients are referred to Tawam Hospital. Partnering with government approved hospitals and treatment facilities ensure that all patients assisted by FOCP are professionally referred to certify that all recommendations to our patients on suggested cancer care that incorporates guidance from certified and experienced cancer specialists and medical professionals.
- Espouse
FOCP has worked on an advisory level to a number of government entities and health authorities by creating and designing leading national health campaigns. The most recent achievements being the Pink Caravan, breast cancer campaign that successfully collaborated with the Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority and Abu Dhabi Health Authority by spreading awareness and screening women from the remote and rural regions of the UAE. FOCP pride themselves on maintaining consistency with our key stakeholders and varied community groups. FOCP strives to represent the voice of cancer patients, by continually pushing for improved cancer control policy based on the evidence. Current national health campaigns that are managed and executed by FOCP are aimed at improving areas of the UAE health policy by advocating for change that will directly have an impact on our community and the people of the UAE. Our latest campaign Pink Caravan, the first national equine campaign for breast cancer, FOCP hope that by pushing this message to government levels that we will succeed by creating the first UAE cancer registry that appropriately represents the number of cancer cases in the country.

FOCP have many support groups across the UAE that we are closely affiliated with such as Breast Friends in Dubai, FOCP are also linked with many international cancer organisations as we strongly believe that collective knowledge will help all cancer organisations achieve common and shared objectives.
