Friends of Cancer Patients charity is a non-profit organization registered at the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs under the ministerial decree No. 427 for the year 2013. FoCP was founded in September 1999 under the directives and patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients society, International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC and Founder.

FoCP is committed to helping cancer patients and their families get through the long and arduous journey of cancer treatment. Since its inception, FoCP has delivered moral and financial support to over 1,300 patients and their families, irrespective of their nationality, gender, age, religion or ethnicity.

FoCP provides a broad spectrum of support for its patients comprising financial support, which entails covering treatment expenses for chemotherapy, radiation and other needed medications, in addition to expenses for investigative and surgical procedures including bone marrow transplants and prosthetic limbs, as well as transportation and food allowance for underprivileged cancer patients, and facilitate sending of patients abroad for specialized treatment. FoCP also provides moral support offering cancer patients psychological consultations and Hajj and Umrah services.

FoCP, furthermore, delivers hospital administrative support, that is, securing medical examinations, appointments and referrals.  Cancer patients can also have access to medical services through Friends of Cancer Patients charity including free mammogram, biopsies, blood test and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). FoCP goes the extra mile to provide the patients comprehensive meal plans and healthy life alternatives accompanied with exercising programmes under the supervision of specilaised nutritionists.

Awareness is at the heart of FoCP’s mission, which involves creating awareness around the 6 early detectable cancers; namely, Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer, Colorectal Cancer, and Skin Cancer under the umbrella initiative of ‘KASHF’ for early detection. In this regard, FoCP has launched numerous cancer focused awareness initiatives with a regional and international target scope, including The Pink Caravan; a breast cancer initiative, Ana; a childhood cancer initiative, Shanab; a men’s cancer initiative, and Mole Talk; a skin cancer initiative.

With a dynamic team that embraces hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life from both public and private sectors, FoCP is a member of different international and regional organisations including, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) based in Geneva Switzerland, American Cancer Society, and the Kuwait-based Gulf Federation for Cancer Control. FoCP is also an affiliate of local health bodies such as UAE Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Sharjah Health Authority and Dubai health Authority. FoCP has garnered widespread recognition and awards from numerous leading institutions, locally, regionally, and internationally in helping cancer patients and creating awareness about the disease.

Create a Cancer aware community in the United Arab Emirates Advocate and provide medical access to improve the quality of life of people affected by cancer

Minimize the impact of cancer through providing financial support, guidance, and various other types of assistance to needy cancer patients and their families throughout the UAE.

Raise awareness across the country on the causes of cancer, methods of prevention and screening, types of treatments, and the available support services in the UAE, to serve as a key resource for cancer patients, their families, and caregivers.

Be in the conscience of companies, individual donors, and the government as the premier breast cancer related initiative.

Foster an environment in the UAE whereby cancer-related issues are a part of public policy, openly and comfortably discussed, and a part of the national agenda on an ongoing and permanent basis.
